Sikanderpur Pahadi

Sikanderpur Pahadi

The Sikanderpur watershed and forest area is a breathtaking 80-acre oasis nestled alongside the bustling Gurgaon-Faridabad road. This historical village, with its lush greenery and sparkling pond, was once a picturesque spot. The pond had become a murky cesspool, polluted by sewage and waste from the surrounding village and office complexes.

Restoring The Area

In liaison with the GMDA and Surge, this iamgurgaon restoration initiative led to the clearing of the waters. The pond once again sparkles with life.

The area around the pond was also covered with invasive water hyacinths but with the tireless efforts of volunteers and partners, the native flora and fauna have been restored to their former glory. The lush greenery now serves as a sanctuary for local wildlife and migratory birds that visit each year.

Despite the challenges faced by the encroachment of migrant labourers who had settled in the area, the land has been successfully reclaimed and iamgurgaon is focused on preserving it for future generations to enjoy.

This initiative steered the way to form a continuous green belt for Gurgaon as part of the Aravali ridge. The Sikanderpur watershed and forest area have become a carefully crafted haven that promotes leisure and environmental sustainability.

Walking and cycling tracks have been meticulously planned to offer a safe and enjoyable experience for all residents of the city. The walkway itself is a marvel of engineering, designed by cleaning 500 tonnes of garbage and reusing construction and demolition waste from around the city.

However, the true beauty of the project lies in its ability to serve a greater purpose. The area not only provides flood protection but also serves as a vital ground water recharge zone, seamlessly integrating into the city's larger greening strategy.

The Sikanderpur Watershed and Forest Trail Restoration project enables one to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and is a beacon of hope for the future of our planet.
