Mandir Recycling Unit

Where Does It Go?

Every day, we throw things away. But have you ever stopped to ask — where does it all go?

Waste is no longer just a by-product of consumption - it’s a crisis threatening the very air we breathe, the water we drink, and the soil that feeds us. In Gurgaon alone, 220 truckloads of garbage are sent out every single day. Our landfills are overflowing. Our environment is suffocating.

Art Meets Awareness

To confront this growing threat, iamgurgaon, in partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram and Artpilgrim Live, launched the “Where Does It Go?” initiative - a powerful campaign aimed at raising awareness about the impact of waste on our daily lives.

Recognising the transformative power of art, renowned artist Arunkumar HG led a collective of twelve local artists in turning waste into storytelling. Discarded materials were sourced from homes and schools and repurposed into thought-provoking, immersive installations 0 each one a mirror held up to our habits, our consumption, and our planet.

From Awareness to Action

To empower individuals with real solutions, Samadhaan Hub was launched - a one-stop destination for all things sustainability. Located at Khushboo Chowk, the Hub provides guidance, resources, and alternatives to help residents make informed, responsible choices.

Following its success, a second dry waste collection unit was established in Badshahpur, Sector 72, at the entrance of our eco-restored Badshahpur Forest Corridor. This unit is designed for easy, responsible disposal of paper, plastic, metal, e-waste, glass, clothes, expired and non-expired medicines.

Honouring Faith, Respecting Nature: The Mandir Waste Unit

One of the most meaningful offshoots of this initiative has been the creation of a dedicated Mandir dy waste collection unit.

In many homes, temples, and community spaces, puja items such as flowers, incense sticks, cloth, terracotta idols, coconut shells, sacred threads, and decorations hold deep emotional and spiritual significance. People often feel conflicted about discarding them - unwilling to throw them in the bin, yet unsure of a respectful alternative.

We listened.

This unit provides a thoughtful, dignified solution - a place where residents can respectfully drop off sacred or religious waste. Thanks to our recycling and upcycling partners, these materials are now given a second life.
