Bring Your Own Bag Campaign - Spreading Awareness and Reducing Plastic Waste at Galleria Market

After a successful run at Arjun Marg, BYOB campaign moved to The Galleria Market, Gurugram.During the period between 9th March and 11th April. On the day of the launch, 9th March, volunteers from our co sponsors CVENT and students of The Shriram School went around the market complex and interacted with the customers/visitors and shopkeepers.

Students of  Ridge Valley School also participated on the 18th of March. They spent one whole day going around the market interacting with shoppers and shopkeepers spreading awareness about the campaign. They also distributed BYOB stickers to the shopkeepers to stick on their doors.

Our team members and volunteers were present in the market every day. The visitors were also requested to sign a pledge- not to use plastic or woven bags and bring their own bag for shopping in future.Engagement with the shopkeepers was also positive. They were receptive to the cause of not adding plastic to the garbage in the city. Woven bags with the iamgurgaon logo were displayed and few were distributed for free.

The event which was spread over a period of little more than a month saw great participation at all levels. Student groups competed to bring in as many ‘yays’ as possible. “GAPU” the mascot, banners ,and  posters ,urging people to bring their own bags, were displayed. Many volunteers took pains to explain to women the importance of cloth bags – especially the ones which can be folded and carried in their handbags/purses.There was a flash mob performance by the  team of our Sponsors CVENT which the visitors enjoyed to their heart’s content. The grand finale, on 11th April, saw a Nukkad Natak- on the menace of plastic- presented by Pure Hearts.
